Sew the upcycled zip onto the join line on the softball.

Sew all the way around the zip, overstitch the end and cut the thread.

Open the zip

Use a pair of sharp scissors to cut through the ball

The ball now has a zip opening

Roll the white wool roving into a firm ball as shown. It will be larger than the ball as it will shrink when made wet with the warm soapy water.

Prepare a small bowl of warm soapy water in which to dunk the ball of wool roving

Dunk the ball of wool roving making sure that all sides come into contact with the warm soapy water

The softly rolled ball ready to be inserted into the zipped ball

Open the zipped ball and prepare to cut off the air vent pipe.

Cut off the air vent pipe. It will leave a small pipe as shown here

Use a chopstick to force any additional wool which might be required to fill the ball tightly.

Smaller balls can be made using water play balls.

Cut the plastic balls 3/4 of the way around the ball as shown.

Duct tape will be required to seal the ball instead of a zip

Roll different layers of wool to create a Geodie of different layers of wool, wet and place inside the play ball.

Seal the play ball with duct tape and put both of the prepared balls into a tumble dryer for about 10 minutes.

The white dryer ball after 10 minutes in the tumble dryer.

Remove the duct tape from the ball and take out the ball

The beautiful Geodie felt ball which can be used either as a juggling ball or cut through for various craft projects.

Rinse the balls well and roll them on a towel to squeeze out the excess water. Put on a cake rack to dry.
